Job Description

Linked Community Services supports elderly members of the community to be more independent, to improve their wellbeing and social connection, and to remain living in their local community. Aged Care Volunteer Visitors are matched to a compatible aged care recipient and introduced at orientation. The role and responsibilities of an Aged Care Volunteer Visitor are discussed at the interview stage and details for a suitable visiting arrangement are made.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme(ACVVS) links Aged Care Volunteer Visitors to Care Recipients in three ways -to Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) with face to face visits on a one-to-one basis, visits face to face with a group of residents, or those accessing a Home Care Package (HCP) with visits to a private home. The ACVVS program is funded by the Australian Government. The primary role of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor is to provide friendship and companionship to the care recipient.

Aged Care Volunteer Visitors are accountable to the ACVVS Coordinator. Regular contact and training opportunities are provided.

Selection Criteria

- A commitment to building a long term friendship with an older person minimum one hour a fortnight, although highly recommended to visit weekly

- Maturity, Reliability, Responsiveness

- Empathy with compassion in understanding of older people

- Effective communication and listening skills

- Ability to work independently with flexibility

- Ability to seek advice as appropriate
